The Price of Being a Mother? £33,000

Mothers do almost £33,000 of housework and childcare for free each year - 40 percent more than fathers. They spend an average of 74 hours a week doing chores and looking after children, tasks it would cost £32,812 to pay someone else to do. Fathers do 53 hours, or £23,296 of work. Within these totals, woman spend 33 hours on childcare compared with men's 21.5. But only 17 percent of people pay someone to help out around the house, the survey by insurer Legal and General found.
